Welcome to Birmingham Pride 2008

24-25 May

This year we've got a fantastic programme lined up for the festival weekend including stunning acts at many venues and an incredible main stage line up - check out the Events section for more details.

The Big Launch

The Pride Festival kicks off at 3pm on Saturday in the heart of the Village with a Community Launch Event.

The Lord Mayor will open Pride 2008 with an event showcasing community groups including Rainbow Voices supported by big name acts on the Main Stage.  Although this year there is no parade, all the colour and atmosphere will be retained with street performers and dancers throughout the area.

We've also managed to get solid commitment from all the Pride partners including West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, Birmingham Highways Dept, and the City Centre Partnership that discussions will commence immediately after this year’s pride to plan a fantastic parade for Pride in 2009.

Whatever the weather

Come rain or shine, we've got the festival covered - literally! There are large areas of street coverage so if the heavens open, there's still plenty of dry drinking space, plus we have a full undercover market.

The roads around Hurst Street will be closed to traffic for the weekend to make way for vibrant entertainment, market stalls, community information and activities.  Several key roads will be tented and there will be a large indoor market and community area located on Hurst Street to ensure everyone can enjoy the weekend, whatever the weather.  There will be tents and marquees, including beer tents, cabaret tents and a women’s area.

Scream if you want to go faster!

There will be a fairground located behind the Hurst Street car park providing rides and entertainment for all ages.

Local bars and restaurants are supporting the festival and will be offering refreshments for attendees, as well as providing evening entertainment for revellers wishing to continue celebrating until the early hours.

Star-studded Main Stage

The Main Stage located next to the Nightingale Club has a full programme for the two days with big name acts alongside entertainment provided by the city’s gay venues!

Fun Packed Cabaret

The cabaret marquee, complete with pink carpet, large bar and Champagne Corner, is located next to the Village Inn.  The marquee boasts a phenomenal line up of the best cabaret artists and entertainment from across UK with visiting cabaret from Gran Canaria.
